Jeff received his first (Silvertone) guitar for his 11th birthday. He has been playing ever since. Jeff grew up playing in rock and roll and blues bands. By the time he was in High School in Mason City, Iowa he was giving guitar lessons at the local music store. Although he bought his first John Coltrane album in 1968, he didnt start playing jazz until he left college. Jeff grew up in Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in film. After spending a few years realizing that, although film was a fun degree, he wasnt making much headway on becoming the next Truffaut he went back to college for the computer science degree. He then worked for several years as a consultant with Oracle working on projects across the country before starting his own professional services company in Seattle. He sold his company in 1998, started teaching in the software engineering program at Seattle University. Jeff also plays in smaller groups. Here is a sample of some duet work with Jack Dowdell, owner of Half Note Studio in Bellevue.
