Bassist Michael Marcus comes from a musical family. He grew up in Northern California playing in trad, swing and jazz bands with his Father Marc (reeds) and Brother Dan (brass). His first band experience was with drummer Nonda Trimis and his brother Ed Trimis on Piano in 1975. Upon graduating from Berkeley High school in 1981, Michael received the first Jazz scholarship to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, while performing as the Bassist for the All-star High School big band at the Monterey Jazz Festival. While a student at NEC he studied with many great musicians and educators including Dave Holland, Miroslav Vitous, George Russell, Bob Moses, Geri Allen and Jimmy Giuffre. Michael received a Bachelors degree in Jazz studies with academic honors. Michael has travelled to over 20 countries as a performer and educator. He has played and / or recorded with many great musicians including Ray Charles, Mose Allison, Benny Green, Thomas McClung, Mike Stern, Tootie Heath Michael first came to Seattle as Bassist for Teatro Zinzanni from 1997 to 2000. For the past 10 years he has studied String instrument repair, Permaculture, TEFL and Asian cultures. Michael is grateful for the opportunity to rekindle his love for Jazz music as bassist for the Easy Street Band. |
